This is the MAINE MONUMENT in Central Park. It was built in 1901 to honor the crew members of the USS Maine battleship who died when their ship exploded in 1898. The name of this allegorical statue is:  THE PACIFIC OCEAN

THE CONSERVATORY GARDEN in Central Park

The CONSERVATORY GARDEN in Central Park is at it’s most beautiful in Spring.  It is divided into three gardens……..Italian, French and English.  Two exquisite allées of pink and white crabapple trees.

A 12 foot fountain plays on the western lawn………tiered hedges lead up to the wisteria pergola .  The Burnett memorial fountain is a stature of two children by the sculptor Bessie Potter Vonnah.  The Three Dancing Maidens fountain is by Walter Schott.  The magnificent gate leading into the park is from the Vanderbilt mansion.
