LOUIS VUITTON Exhibition • NYC 2017

Louis Vuitton founded his company in 1854.  He designed the trunks for Empress Eugenie……..and his business took off.  He perfected the “flat trunk”……..his use of fabrics and patterns set his luggage apart from his competitors.

The success of his company was guaranteed when he designed the first vertical wardrobe trunk.  The invention of the tumbler lock allowed the owner to open each piece of luggage with the same hey and some wealthy clients traveled with as many as seventy pieces of luggage.

I collect the original art of the fashion designer PAUL POIRET……so it was fun to discover the personalized trunk he used when traveling.
