RED CABBAGE…….my recipe

TOMS RECIPE for shredded RED cabbage

Cut a head of RED CABBAGE in half.

I did a watercolor before I cooked it.

Slice it very thinly………..

Dice it………

Bring to a boil in 1/2 c water……..with S and P and one teaspoon caraway seeds.  Douce with 2 tbs of red wine vinegar. Add a bay leaf and 2 cloves of garlic. Reduce to a simmer for 25 mins.

Saute your favorite sausage.

Serve with a cold beer.  ENJOY.

FIGS from my TERRACE GARDEN

Every summer I grow FIGS on my terrace………

Today I picked 6 of my FIGS.

Then I arranged the FIGS in a dotty dish………

This was my sketch for the FIG layout.

Final sketch with a ball-point pen……..6 FIGS

Chose my color pallet for the FIGS.….31 colors in all……..

This is the final watercolor of my FIGS.

Then I pickled the FIGS.………..and will eat them tomorrow with a pork roast.

[My mother taught me how to pickle fruit when I was 10 years old].

CHRISTMAS in my Apartment

And not a mouse was stiring………they were all busy eating Santa’s cookies!

Dutch Poffertjes for Christmas Morning

My dear friend in London……Baudina……..sent me prezzies……..goodies from Fortnum and Mason in “Merry old’ England.

Baudina is from Holland so it was only fitting that I make some”pofferjes for ontbijten [breakfast].

With Vermont maple syrup…of course.

The mince pies….with vegan suet…..that is a change.

And these tiny, adorable gingerbread house fro Fortnum and Mason.  Delish!

SKETCHES from my Dining Table

I am running out of space on my dining table………pencils taking over……..and I just ordered 200 more.

CLICK on the HONEY POT…………..

I am making “20 minute” sketches of whatever lands on the table in front of me.

AUTUMN on my TERRACE

The trees in Central Park are in their full glory……..just in time for the NYC MARATHON.

The view from my terrace…………overlooking the Dakota apartments.

FARMER MARKET FUN • then Lunch

We schlepp to the farmers market every Sunday morning and load up for the week.

My favorite farmers are always there………..flowers……….veggies……..cheese and fresh fish from Long Island.

When I get it home………….I love to photograph it all before I cook it.

Purple beans with garlic….okra…..fish with grilled squash and tomatoes.

Chickpeas salad……….spinach pie……….and Cosmos.

YUM YUM YUM……….having a “taste” before my guests arrive.  It is 89º today and I am wilting fast!  [The flowers seem to love it].
