I often take photos of people who look directly at me……..”is that guy taking my photo” ?
YES !!!
Has anyone ever socked me in the eye?? Not yet !!!

WEATHER SNAPPED…………..in the 50’s………and out came the “fall” fashion.
Even the “homeless” look kinda trendy.
Of course, Ilona Royce Smithkin with her ORANGE hair………..and her Karen Walker sunglasses………looks fab!
Shopping in SOHO…….a’ jump’ start on shopping for Christmas presents. Dropped in at the Crosby Street Hotel for tea………popped into Housing Works [a gay thrift shop] for jewelry…….and the ASTOR WINE STORE for some bubbly.
Who needs BLACK FRIDAY when you have SOHO SATURDAY
The cardboard box on the corner is actually a house for a homeless man.
The CROSBY STREET HOTEL is one of my favorite restaurants is SOHO. Afternoon tea is a delight.
At the BANANA REPUBLIC store on Upper Broadway….the new look for Fall 2014.
Gray and BLACK and Denim
And on the sidewalk in front of the fashion windows……….. the home of a homeless girl………who obviously can’t afford any of these fashions.
Manhattan’s Homeless rate is up 7%, but on the Westside where I live…..it is up 14%. 56,000 are sleeping in homeless shelters….and thousands more are sleeping in the streets…….in the parks…….in the subways and on church steps all over town.
You can CLICK ON
any of these poor people and get a closer look at their condition
It is heartbreaking.
More than 1000 children are living with their families in these shelters……….this is a tragedy. Many of these families have been evicted from their apartments unable to pay the rents that landlords are charging. A studio apartment in Manhattan can cost between $3000 to $4000 a month.
Walking down FIFTH AVENUE tonight was ghostly quiet. One and a half million people are over at Times Square to watch the ball drop at midnight.
Abercrombie and Fitch was open for business.
The star on 57th street was avow with Swarovski crystals.
In front of the PLAZA HOTEL is a golden equestrian statue of William Tecumseh Sherman…………aglow in the night sky.
The Empire State Building is lit up for the holidays.
This homeless girl and her two dogs will likely have an very UNHAPPY New Year 2014.

The number of homeless people in New York City………has increased dramatically……..about 13%. Winter is approaching and many more will need sheltering from the cold. They sleep on subway platforms, church stepS…….cardboard boxes and in garbage dumpsters………..where they also find food. Members of the Military will soon be leaving and will add to these numbers. PRISON REFORM IS RELEASING MANY OFFENDERS WITH NO PLACE TO GO.
23 percent of the homeless are young people under the age of 18. No chance of a job. No possibility of furthering their education. No families to be a part of. Churches have soup kitchens but can’t offer a place to sleep. Bloomberg says that most of these people live in shelters. Hmmmmm? The Department of Homeless Services says it is going to get worse before it gets better. Tragic!
UNION SQUARE PARK.…….day or night………filled with students from NYU……….chess players looking for action…….musicians hoping for a buck in the hat……………farmers selling hungry New Yorkers fresh produce.
There are always artists hoping for a sale.
The architecture surrounding the park is a visual and historical delight.
Didn’t see a fire…….maybe it was a sewer ready to BLOW!
