MY ART STUDIO IS JAMMED with my latest acquisitions.

Last week it looked like this.  P1040821

Hurricanes IRENE  and  SANDY did their number on my walls and ceiling.

P1040823

The ceiling fell in……….exactly over my computer.  What fun!!!

P1040832

ZORRO [yes, his real name]………….came with six guys.

P1080089

In three days they did a complete restoration..and new paint job!

NOW my problem is…………where to hang all the NEW art I bought since October!!!  SELL IT???  Never!

My ART STUDIO……yesterday and today! What a dump!

The HURRICANES……..Irene and Sandy did a number on my art studio.  I couldn’t repair it until the building fixed the cracks on the facade.  That was done for $2 million.

KAREN SANTRY…..my artist friend…..wiped out by HURRICANE SANDY

Karen is sooooo talented.  Fine art painter, fabulous fashion illustrator…and a dear friend.

IMG_4683

She is currently Professor of art at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

P1130936

She is also the Vice President of Fashion Art Bank…….a world licensing company for Fashion Illustration.

P1130937

Figures from her Kabuki series………..these are NOT fabric collages…….rather paintings that look like fabrics.

P1130938

All of these beautiful figures…..some 12 feet tall……have all been destroyed in the flood of hurricane Sandy.

P1130943

Karen lives in an Artists Community Housing called WESTBETH……..in Chelsea.

P1130949

Her 30 years of art were stored in two storage spaces if the basement of Westbeth.

P1130953

The hurricane filled the studios with water……10 feet deep.  A tragedy!

P1130955

Karen was also a Lilly Fellow in the Art Dept. at Yale.  She is currently a member of The Society of Illustrators where we meet for lunch.

P1130971

In her studio before it was destroyed by Sandy.

P1130965

Karen was the artist who painted David Bowie in his famous leather jacket. She earned her print making techniques from Andy Warhol.  Hurricane Sandy has not dampened her spirit.  She is an inspiration to all of her Artist friends.

MY TERRACE Before and After SANDY

The day before the hurricane……….lunch on the terrace and all was well.

The table and chair……..GONE!  What a wind she blew !!!

Sweet little guardian angel………looks ever so sad………..she couldn’t stop Sandy.

Gas tank………for heating up the tar paper.

The new “flashing” will now go up under the bricks.

Trees?  All gone.  Not to worry……….next Spring I”ll plant new “River Birch”.

Time out for coffee and a doughnut.

MARATHON SUNDAY in Central Park

For New Yorkers……it was “business as usual”………..no MARATHON meant ………back to a bit of normalcy for a few hours.

Bow Bridge and the San Remo towers……..both enjoyed the calm after the storm.

Rollerbladers at the Bandshell……..doing their tricks for the tourists.

“Oh my aching back”……….but the Abada Caporeira kids were having a great time.

And her shoes match his shirt………..

Plastic flowers for a Bridal Bouquet………..why not !

Amour……..

They were quite entertaining……….with a hip sound and fine voices.

What is with those “drop drawer” pants?  Actually ……..a hot new fashion trend in New York.

Newlyweds in the passage at Bethesda Fountain.

I have no idea what or who he is supposed to be.

Oh so pretty.

Oh………..not so pretty !

Balloons on their way to a party in the park.

oh so cute

Our geese LOVE muffins……from Pain Quotidien.

Weather was cool……….but picnics rule.

250 trees were uprooted by Sandy.  The city Parks Department worked all week to chop and clear.  Sad to lose so many in just one storm.

Carts for Marathon Officials………still and silent……never used.

From my terrace I could look down to the lake……..and the boaters.

Central Park …………so serene………..unaware that the big “Noreaster” storm is on it’s way on Wednesday.

The “RUN ANYWAY” Marathon

Mayor Bloomberg changed his mind and announced the NY Marathon was cancelled.  Hurricane SANDY has left hundred of thousands of New Yorkers without electricity, heat, food, transportation and other essentials of existence.  At the beginning of the week the Mayor said the city needed the $350 million that the Marathoners bring to NY.  This from a man who is worth $25 BILLION……….one of the 10 richest men in America.  Where is his checkbook?

His tag reads “RUN ANYWAY MARATHON”.

Grim determination…….

I think the bicycle is cheating !

Mexico was “huffin and puffin”.

One lonely runner from Brazil.

Of course………..NEON was the color of choice this year.

Natalie from Bermuda………lookin’ good !

Two blind runners with there guide……[note how they are tied together with a rope].

Don’t know where he’s from…..but I give him the prize for the “Tightest Buns”.

  “Viva La France”

Water anyone.  Gatorade too.  Normally there would have been 47,000 takers.

The FINISH LINE…….and no winners this year.

The statue of Fred Lebow.……the founder of the NY City Marathon………..is erected at the finish line every year.  I wonder what he would say to Mayor Bloomberg about the cancellation.

Some of the Marathoners volunteered to carry food to those in need.  Many New Yorkers are still without electricity……….and walking up 30 stories or more is impossible for the elderly and handicapped.

One of the 5000 policemen who would have been assigned to the streets along the 26.2 miles…….and are now free to help with the recovery.

The ” dangling crane” hanging off the 90th floor on the”Billionaire’s Club ” building…………157 west 57th street………..is still up there on top………just swung around to the front side……..so if it falls…….it will be a direct hit onto 57th street.

“SHEEP’S MEADOW”…………..so serene and peaceful today.  Normally after the marathon it would be littered with crippled feet by the thousands of weary Marathoners.

SANDY…..AND THE DANGLING CRANE

AND IT DANGLES evermore?  Top of the “Billionaires Club” building at 157 west 57th street.  Sandy brought it down……and they can’t seem to figure out how to get it up !

This building also has TAX ABATEMENTS………so the billionaires  will make out like bandits.  The streets below were closed.  Thousands evacuated………and poor Carnegie Hall Concerts all cancelled.  For New Yorkers……THAT is also a tragedy.

The top floors are “sold out“……..$90 million each.  There are still a few available on the lower floors for $50 million and up.  Shall we all take one?

This is the view of Fifth Avenue from my terrace.  Can you imagine what the views are like from the 90th floor of West 157?

Down on the street…….the light was intense.  Sandy blew away all the pollution over New York……..brilliant blue skies and glorious clouds appeared

The roof of Tavern on the Green in Central Park got ripped about.

Looking down on Madonna’s apartment building…….her terrace is intact.  Everything was tied down with ropes………which I am sure would appeal to Madonna.
