My 25 Ideas for CHRISTMAS GIFTS

It was a fun day of shopping………….5th Avenue……….a flea market………a silver emporium………and a crafts show.  [I am exhauested].  But I did make 5 purchases…………gifts for family…….friends………and my stockbroker!

The TAXIDERMY DEER HEAD………..was NOT among my purchases.

However…………..this Courtly Check Moose Head at MacKenzie Childs did tempt me…………..at $15,000 [cough]………….but it was the $695 delivery charge that killed the purchase.

CHRISTMAS at MacKenzie Childs

Thousands of beautiful things to buy…………..at my favorite store in NYC.

BUT………..this little paper house is the only thing I bought!…………what was I thinking!!!

I did debate with myself……………to buy or not to buy………..WHITE SANTA……..but I already have four.

BERGDORF GOODMAN Christmas Windows • 2017

This year Bergdorf’s teamed up with NYC MUSEUMS…………..and themed the windows accordingly.  Can you guess which museum each window highlights!

This year I was very disappointed with the windows…….they just weren’t up to snuff with years past.

My Typewriter Wizard passed away at 89

Mary Adelman……the wizard of typewriter repairs had her shop……..Osner Business Machines ……..on Amsterdam Avenue…….. since 1968 when her husband took over the shop from Mr. Osner.

While my  friends were using their laptop……….I was still using my old Remington.  My partner Don was using his Smith Corona electric to write the scripts for his books.  And it was Mary that kept them working.  When Mary was on “48 Hours”  with Dan Rather he called typewriters ………….”road kill on the information highway” .  Personally I liked the click-click of the keys and the slinging of the carriage.

John F Kennedy……..typing the pages for his journal.

The photo of Mary….courtesy of The New York Times.

DOUGHNUT PLANT nyc

If you are in or near the CHELSEA HOTEL…………the DOUGHNUT PLANT in the lobby will treat you to celestial delights…..ie,  DOUGHNUTS!

You may need more than one…….maybe the creme brulee…….. or the

tres leches.

$50 a dozen………but worth every bite!

Shopping for a TURKEY on Arthur Avenue

We schlepped up to the BRONX..……to the Italian Markets…….looking for an Italian Turkey……….NO TURKEY……..but a lot of cute Italians.

Arthur Avenue is the place to get your Proscuitto.

I passed on the oysters but got a whole salami……….peppered.

The price for the whole proscuitto was $299……not bad.

Where did we end up??  WHITE CASTLE.  It has been 60 years since I ate one of those……back then they were 12 for a dollar.  Today it tasted just as yukky as it did in 1960.

Another ART BUYING BINGE this week

I don’t have another inch of space on my walls………but I went ART SHOPPING anyway. No,  I did not  bid on the Leonardo Da Vince “Portrait of Christ”….I was a bit short  of cash……….$450 million to be exact!

I did score a Bonnard….a Charon……….some English Chromolithographs……an antique map and a few other prints.
