MY TERRACE under Restoration

This is the view from my ART STUDIO window.

Hurricane Irene did her thing with my terrace…………and the crew is still here trying her fix her damage to the building.

The workers are a great crew………..so I keep them supplied with iced lemonade and taco snacks.

From the other window in my studio I still get a wonderful view of the Dakota and Central Park.

Today…..after the rain…….we got a double rainbow.

CENTRAL PARK in her Autumn Glory

A walk in the park……in Autumn………is a glorious experience.

Central Park South………in reflection.

Museum of Natural History with a view of my terrace in the distance.

The Eldorado Apartments………..

The Beresford Apartments……….home to Jerry Seinfeld and many Opera Stars.

These benches….designed in the 1930’s are awaiting Memorial Plaques.  You can purchase one for $7,500.

The “Allee” in the Conservatory Garden……..5th Avenue at 105th street.

The “reds” are not in abundance this year.

This old stone bridge is still used.

Classic  benches at the bandshell.

Bethesda Fountain basking in the Autumn sunlight.

Beethoven………..of course.

Wooden fences surround areas to be “re-seeded”.

What could be more relaxing than a float in a boat……. [if someone else does the rowing].

Nancy Yee……….

Two ducks in a row.

Molto Ginko

Stone steps at 99th street.

Rest….read…….contemplate……..or meditate.

Some of the damage from Hurricane Irene.

And someone who could cause some damage.

The pond at 100th street on the west side.

Photographers love the pond……….and it’s wildlife.

A young admirer of the Mallards.

Artists flock to the pond.

Lovers flock to this rock!

One of the prettiest knolls in the park.

One of the handsomest guitar players in the park.

More destruction from Hurricane Irene

Double Breasted Cormorant……waiting for a little fish or two.

Secret Garden Memorial Statue……Frances Hodgson Burnette.

Boy with flute…….

The pond  is filled with Water Lillies.

Is this not a georgous bird!

The Three Dancing Maidens in the Untermeyr Fountain…..

Heads in the hedges…all in a row.

And that was my walk in the park !

LUNCH at Jean- Georges Nougatine

Had to get away from my art studio for a while [Irene really did her number].

Treated myself to lunch at Jean Georges Nougatine.  His creations are astonishing………from simple dishes to unexpected combos……I was dazzled.

The restaurant is located in the Trump Hotel on Central Park West……at Columbus Circle……just steps away from my apartment.

The dining room is simple, friendly, open and airy………..with views into Central Park.

The bar is very casual…….you can bop in and bop out.

The open kitchen is in the back area.

PRIX FIXE LUNCH ……..$32……..what a bargain!  The icy cold water just keeps coming!

OMG!  If bread is the staff of life………keep it coming.

Watermelon and goat cheese….with a sprinkle of sea salt.  Loved the sea salt……feta was OK….but the watermelon was tired.

Cold berry soup….asked for MORE.  Then I needed a toothpick………blackberry seeds.

Stuffed artichoke and a dipping sauce……sublime.

I wasn’t thrilled with the cold salmon……….

So the waiter traded it for a Filet Mignon.  Heaven!

Warm chocolate cake………..vanilla bean ice cream……I wanted the recipe………..and got it.

The waiter…..Kenny was a dream.  Hot tea………and kept it coming.  I wanted to take him home………..we all need someone to make our tea………18 cups a day.

AFTERNOON TEA with HER IMPERIAL MADNESS.

After Irene did her destruction…….Don and I spent a day restoring our terrace.  It survived and so did we.

To celebrate we invited our friend………RUTH………for afternoon tea.

My menu was simple………butter cookies ……

Pesto, olives and rosemary.

We did NOT eat the passion flowers!

Blues…….

Madame Butterfly brought her own parasol.

Strawberries………and butter leaves.

Lots of ice water…….

Ruth thinks if she wears the passion flower………..at 94……….wishful thinking?

IRENE DESTROYS MY ART STUDIO

The hurricane rain pelted down faster than the drain could handle it.  Our loyal building super…..Mahir……was out there pumping away…..and cursing just a bit!

The pots were flung asunder……trees blown over………..but NONE flew over the terrace railing.

Miss Red Maple blew over.

BUT………..downstairs in the ART STUDIO………..Irene unleased her relentless tears…………and it rained in for 8 hours.

Plaster fell out the ceiling right behind my computer.

Garbage bucket funneling the deluge.

Plaster and Plastic fell down faster than I could put it back up.

Of course the tape wouldn’t hold……….it was WET!

A bin full of 150 pieces of original art……waiting to get scanned.

My reference material………….GONE!

My coffee cup………..serving up wet plaster.

This pile of paintings was spared.  Thank you Irene!  You did ONE good thing!

This used to be a kitchen sink.

The 28 paintings that line my hallway are all SAFE!……..that includes two Picasso’s from 1930.

This Victorian Scrap Book survived for 130 years…..then got wiped out by Irene.

My BULLETIN BOARD………..just a bit disheveled.

This WAS my KITCHEN.  Carly Simon and James Taylor were married here!

Piles spread out to dry.

Miss Pink Pussy…..the poodle……..doesn’t seem to be bothered by it all.I’m not either., really.  Friends of mine were really flooded out……my sympathies lie with them.
