These are scenes from BARNEY’S windows.  The concept is clever…..the execution fantastic……….kudos to the artist, Simon Doonan [who is married to Jonathan Adler the designer with his own chain of stores].

GUY FIERI.……..now has a 500 seat restaurant………American Kitchen & Bar in Times Square.  He doesn’t quite have his act together.  The food is over priced and rather awful.  Give him time!

Oh MARIO.………I do love your new food adventure EATALY on 23rd street.  Gourmet Italian food…….12 restaurants in one spot……oh that pasta……the sauces…….the breads……….and the wine.

 

Lunch with ILONA at the “Tavern on Jane”

We met Ilona  at her apartment……in front of the Waverly Inn on west 12th street.

In the West Village………51 Bank Street………the TREMONT.  Unpretentious……classy……with an innovative menu……it is amazing.

The view out onto the street………..a never ending parade of New Yorkers and tourists.  I’m glad they took their lunch elsewhere……….out serenity was preserved.

If you’ve never been here….try it.  You will be pleasantly surprised.

TOM’S Pork Roast……with Ale

Easy Peasy recipe……[as Jamie Oliver would say].

Chop half a head of this pretty purple veggie.

Saute a red onion…..in butter……..olive oil…….or both.  S & P.

Chop a peeled Granny Smith……saute for only a couple of minutes.

Add a cup of ale or amber beer.

Brown the roast on all sides, in olive oil. Cook for about 20 mins on the stovetop in the same skillet [I use cast iron] with the cabbage, onions and ale mixture.  Do NOT cover it.  Serve.  Devour it.

 

 

 

Slumming in PARK SLOPE on Saturday

Saturday morning breakfast is always the same menu.  GRITS, fried tomato, white toast, jumbo egg and jam.
