The steamer….CITY of DETROIT 111…….was built in 1910 by the Detroit Shipbuilding Co. It was designed by Frank E. Kirby.
In todays’s dollars…..the ship would cost $38 million. It was the largest side-wheeler in the world……….traveling between Buffalo, Cleveland and Detroit.
The interior decoratios were designed by painter and architect Louis O. Keil.
The “Gothic Room” with it’s gothic architecture.
The ship was taken out of service in 1950 and sold for scrap six years later. The GOTHIC ROOM was salvaged and can now be seen in the Dossin Great Lakes Museum.
