In NYC we don’t garages……so we have “STOOP SALES”.  You may have seen Lena Dunham of “GIRLS”….and her stoop sale.  Todays sale was on West 22nd street in Chelsea.

FORTUNY Y MADRAZO at the Spanish Institute

You still have a chance to see the exhibit…….closes March 30.  The Queen Sophia Spanish Institute on Park Ave is hosting this show of the Famous Spanish artist and designer Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo [1871-1949 ] .  Oscar de la Renta curated the show……highlighting Fortuny’s extraordinary career.

His use of silk velvets, satin, metallic prints, silk crepe, cords and glass beads in his designs transcended  tiers of fashion……… iconic women for decades have worn his creations……. Isadora Duncan, Peggy Guggenheim  and Gloria Vanderbilt.  

THE LOVELY LADY IN THE PHOTOGRAPH is Mrs. William Wetmore modeling a Delphos.  The photo was originally published in Vogue in 1935.

DORIS DUKE’S Shangri La

The MAD…….Museum of Art and Design at Columbus Circle in Manhattan has exhibit of Doris Duke’s Shangri La.…….her home in Hawaii.  It shows  works from her collection that have never before been seen outside of Shangri La.

Doris inherited One billion dollars [$15 billion in today’s dollars]…….when her tobacco baron father died in 1932………making her the richest girl in the world…….and the money to fulfill her every wish and desire.  Doris was a very generous philanthropist…….spreading her money around the globe.Museum of Art and Design NYC

Tim Street- Porter was commissioned to photograph Shangri La’s five acre property………shown here in these near wall size photographs.
