NEW YEARS DAY………in Central Park……..2015

CAFE EDISON…….evicted by the landlord!

We signed petitions…………along with thousands of New Yorkers………..trying to cafe the sacred CAFE EDISON in the theatre district.  To no avail.

The JANE STREET HOTEL…………in Greenwich Village………has retained all the charm of a hotel from the past.  Rooms start at $117……..small but fun.

Afternoon stroll in Jersey City

There are a lot of surprises on the streets of Jersey City………art exhibits at City Hall……with the Soldiers and Sailors Monument out front.

 Van Vorst Park right in the middle of a charming brownstone neighborhood.

Dozens of small but charming restaurants.

Simple but authentic decor……….just like one of those cute cafes in Paris.

The Public Monuments are impressive.  The Soldiers and Sailors monument in front of City Hall by the sculptor Philip Martiny is utterly magnificent.  The SIBERIA monument…………well….!!!

AFTERNOON TEA with friends from the Royal Ballet

My friends from the Royal Ballet in Birmingham have been in town for 5 days.  Dougie was setting up the stage at City Center for a performance by the Sarasota Ballet…..using the Royals set.  The lovely Claudia took time off from the Royal Ballet School in London.  Brother Alex [wearing John Lennon’s sunglasses]……..is a tennis coach in New Jersey.  James [with the adorable smile] is a student of dramatic arts.

We lunched at AG’s Kitchen on the upper West Side………the burgers there reign supreme.

Matthew, the owner of Cafe Minerva, has recently opened HAMILTON’S LUNCHEONETTE [51 Bank Street].  Nostalgia has returned to the neighborhood………and at prices that are hard to believe!
