NYC………People watching at the MOMA

I went to the Museum of Modern Art today to take in the show: INVENTING ABSTRACTION 1910-1925…………but I got sidetracked and found the people viewing the art more interesting than the art.

EYES WIDE OPEN

Everywhere I turned today……….people and things were staring at me !  I stared back.  And snapped!  I took 200 photos….here are a few of them.  Have fun !

“HERE’S LOOKIN’ AT YOU KID !”

50 FACES on the streets of Manhattan

There are millions of faces on the streets of New York.  Funny faces, defacements, facelessness,  dogfaces, facelifts, face masks, moonfaced FACES ………..you get the picture !

Marilyn Monroe………a face no one can forget.

Bang and Olufsen……….[Earphones $300].

Molls and dolls……..Beethoven and hardhats…….Minnie Mouse and clowns……..Picasso and Frieda Kahlo.

Cartoons and buffoons

This “Matisse….ish” face was on a four foot vase on the sidewalk at Little West 12th. street.

John Lennon……..I was home the night he was shot.  Ran out into the street.  Will never forget the screams of Yoko Ono.

My day started with bacon and eggs on toast…….shared with nephew Steve from Detroit………in town for a job interview .

Today was the last day to catch the PICASSO AND FRANCOISE GILOT exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery on Madison avenue.

THE SHOW WAS NUMBING…….SO INCREDIBLE.   She lent many works from her own collection of paintings to the exhibition…….curated by John Richardson.

Meet Francoise. She is alive and well and at age 90 living in New York City.

I decided to walk thru the park…..instead of cabbing it to the Picasso Show.

That’s my apt, shrouded with a scaffold and screen…….Hurricane Irene cracked it wide open.  Nasty piece of work !

This Hansom Cab tried to pick me up.  At $100 …..I declined !

Allways begging!  I fed them my toast crumbs.

Over the bridge…..and thru the woods……….to….

BETHESDA FOUNTAIN………

And the Angel pf the Waters…..sculpted  by Emma Stebbins…..and placed in the park in 1873.

Water lilys fill the fountain.

Some try to beat the heat is a boat.

The Gondolier gets a workout in this 95 degree heat.

“CIRO” our resident cormorant……..waiting for a fish.

Get out the Sunbloc!

Coppertone for sure!

SPF 15 !

Sizzlin” HOT !

He said he was photographing the Dakota !  Hmmmmmm………

Miss Ruby and her little “Miss Slippers”.

Dropped in at the Boathouse for lunch.

Breads !  Say “yes” to carbs.

Champagne and potato chips.  Why not !

WHY?  Just because Lunch is $100 per .

So how much is it for a bone?

It’s 95 degrees….and she wears a sweater?

The great blue heron ever on the lookout.  My mother nick-named her “Harriet”.

The Yacht Pond Cafe………a Perrier stop for sure.

Lots of boats were out today.

My mother also named her…..”Lucy Goosey”.

Donald headed for the Carousel.

My favorite horse……….I always ride twice.

“Can I have a ride……..?  ”I’m dressed for the occasion.”

We looked up at the building on 5th Avenue where Mary Tyler Moore lives…….and where Pall Mall’s nest has been restored.  The head of the co-op board wanted it REMOVED!

Pale Male was hatched in 1990.  His mate was dubbed…..“First Love”

Rising to 1004 feet is t he new residential tower ……157 WEST 57 th street, by Gehry  Overlooking Central Park……the penthouse was just sold for $90 million.  But there are a few left at $20 mil and UP.

The PLAZA Hotel is still my fave.  Todd English has opened 12 restaurants on the lower level………..but I’ve only tried four.

SURTEX…….selling & licensing art Marketplace

This year was the 26th edition of this showcase for artists from around the world.

Jacob Javits Convention Center here in New York is the site of this show.

The grand promonade inside the Javits Center.……….is a hugh soaring space.

35,000 buyers from around the globe show up for this show.

Artists making the scene……..or rather………….part of the scene !

The stairway to the show.  American Greetings [one of my clients]…..took out an ad for there Booth #255o.

The National Stationery Show coincides with the Surtex Show………and the shopping bags are free. [ Collecting those catalogues .......they do get heavy] !

The LOUIE AWARDS recognize the best in the Greeting Card Industry. There were 54 winners in 28 Categories.

The artists exhibiting in the Surtex Show rent a booth [$7,OOO TO $20,OOO] to display and sell their latest original art.

There are miles of aisles…………300 booths…….showing original art from over 1000 artists.

It was a pleasant surprise to run into friends……..Dennis Kendrich and Andrea Brooks…………showing their latest designs.

Andrea is a watercolorist…….famous for her beautiful and fluid “wet on wet” technique.

Click on her website to view her new floral collection.

Andrea Brooks

Tai Lin Hsieh.…….a talented younf designer………..one of four winners of the International Student Design Competition.

I was there.  Looking for the next Picasso!  All I found was a poster !

FACES for the New Year

Some new ones…………some old one……and some we never want to see again !

John Lennon………we wish we could see YOUR face again.

19 HEADS and one TAIL

Everywhere I looked today…….it was “Heads UP”.

And the promised tail.
