157 West 57 st…………90 stories of CONDOS!

The architect……”Christian de Portzamparc” has designed what he calls “a tumbling waterfall”…………the panes of glass are the colors of water.

I must be blind!  I only see weird patterns.

P1030313

THE DANGLING CRANE!  Remember that…….. during hurricane “Jenny”.

P1030352

The crane shut down west 57th Street for days………. all the hotels and business were evacuated. This was the view I had of the disaster from my Swimming Pool.

P1140320

Millions and bejillions of  $$$$$ in lawsuits over the loss of business.

P1150354

TRAFFIC jammed up for a year with all the construction barricades on the street.

P1150355

Took thousand of these cement trucks to put up the “waterfall”.

P1150362

Undulating walls……….like a waterfall???

5th Ave on NEW YEARS EVE

P1110547

T’was a foggy day…….but the Manhattan skyline was there.  How comforting!

P1110553

If your “flambé dessert” was a bit too torched…………the Fire Rescue boat is right outside your window……just yell!

P1110552

The Empire State Building looms in the distance………as does the new “Billionaires Building”  at 157 West 57th street!

P1110570

BUT…..you don’t have to be a BILLIONAIRE to dine at Xaviars……….$24 for a pre fixe lunch is a “steal”.

P1110571

Nice touch at the hostess desk.

P1110574

Yes……it was my first trip to Yonkers.  But worth the 30 minute ride. Peter Kelly has created a class act with this restaurant.  Take the Amtrack…….$5. The restaurant is just a few steps from the station.

P1110585

When I went to the Loo……three elderly ladies were in there……….wondering why it had two urinals……I guided them to the Ladies Loo.

Art just outside the bathroom door.

P1110620

I did appreciate the orchid bowl on each table.

P1110626

$15 a glass……..and strangely “unfruity” for a Riesling.  Marion’s Chardonnay was a better choice.

P1110637

We were all charmed by  Sam……a delightful waiter. On our next visit we will ask for him again.

P1110640

A bit tough those Coconut Shrimp……….[can't really blame the little critters for this].  Dijon Mustard was the sauce.

P1080691

MACY”S FOURTH of JULY FIREWORKS

The 4th of July 2013 Macy’s Fireworks was as spectacular as ever.  The view from my terrace was partially blocked be several new  apartment buildings……..but the show went on.. USHER , the superstar was the creative force behind  this year’s Spectacular. Again,  the Sousa brothers outdid themselves with the pyrotechnics.  BRAVO.

P1470088

Macy installed the first escalators in 1927.  But have hidden their elevators!  Wanna go up? Take the escalator and please get off on each floor and SPEND!

LUNCH at the Edison Hotel Cafe

The EDISON HOTEL in Times Square……..midtown Manhattan……..a campy place to stay in NY.

The hotel was built in 1931 and has the classic look and feel of an Old New York City Hotel…….very Art Deco in design.

The lobby echoes  the same grand style of  Radio City Music Hall.  Deco all the way.

The murals are a camp !  Empire State Building looms in the background.

Specially woven carpet copies the original from 1930.

CORNUCOPIA………the mural designed by Roman Gregory Chatov .  He also made a large hand-painted silk shawl for the dancer Isadora Duncan……….the very one that strangled her to death when it got caught in the hub cap of the car she was riding in.

CLICK ON TO SEE THE BUGATTI:

Sitting at the counter is fun…..try the KASHA VARNISHKES…..just one will do it.  It’s a Jewish thing…..kasha, noodles and onions fried in chicken fat.

Choose any booth………..all bring an experience.

“Buenos dias…..may I take your order” ?

Diner coffee……..but a cut above the usual.  MILK not cream!

Lemon coke…..instead of an “egg creme”.

Burger burned to a crisp…….akin to shoe leather.  But, who cares?

The egg salad was a better choice……..crispy bacon …….lettuce and tomato.  Yummy.

Frozen………..deep fried……..just like they should be in a NY diner.

My luncheon guest knew what to do with them.

Matilda….the campy waitress fits right in.

Bud in the bottle…….not on tap.  I will return !Radio City Music Hall,

LUNCH ON E. 32ND ST. at the Crooked Knife

Lunch at the Crooked Knife……on East 32nd st.  Cute place……dreadful food.  Not the waitress’s fault…..she didn’t cook it.  I will not show you the photos I took of the greasy fries and the rock hard hamburger.

The outdoor tables are under a scaffold.  Dark and depressing!  No one was sitting there.

Nice interior….very “pubby”.

Stopped in for tea and a Korean pastry at Tous Les Jours……strange taste,  skip it!

The walk across 32nd street is a hoot.  It is nicknamed “Little Korea”.  Sight and sounds and clamor.

The only bridge in Manhattan connecting two different buildings.
